What is Winnow?
From the Winnow website: "The winnow system processes spam, collected world-wide, to determine information about the spam's origin and content and uses that information to determine spam fingerprints and generates anti-spam mail content blocking rules which you can use with your own mail server to rid yourself and your users from spam."
The Winnow rules are available in SpamAssassin format, which means they will work great with Counteragent. Winnow will greatly increase the accuracy of SpamAssassin by checking email for spam fingerprints of actual spam received by OITC. Learn more on how it works at the Winnow website.
The downloaded Winnow rules will be stored here: Counteragent Files:SpamAssassin:Rules:winnow_spamassassin_rules.cf
Auto Winnow Downloads Enabled
Checking this box allows your Winnow rules to be updated automatically. Counteragent will take care of downloading the Winnow rules, installing them, and restarting the SpamAssassin daemon.
URL
Enter the complete URL that you were given when you signed up for Winnow. Make sure that your URL is configured to download the SpamAssassin version of the Winnow rules. This field needs to start with http:// and will only accept Winnow URL's.
Frequency
This menu determines how often Counteragent updates your Winnow rules. How often you are allowed to download the rules depends upon your contract with OITC. Make sure that this frequency does not violate your terms of service for number of downloads per day!
Notify Admin On
These checkboxes allow you to receive notifications about Winnow downloads and any errors that occurred.
Last Update/Next Update
This simply tells you when the last Winnow update was performed and when the next is scheduled. You may manually update Winnow by clicking the 'Update Winnow Now' button. This button will become enabled when a Winnow URL is entered in the URL field.
