Documentation - Training Addresses

Training Addresses
Messages received at these addresses are used to manually train the SpamAssassin Bayes database. If an email is not tagged as spam and should have been, it can be redirected to a Spam Training Address. If an email is tagged as spam and shouldn't have been, it can be redirected to a Ham Training address. Redirecting mail is NOT the same as forwarding. To redirect a message using Apple's Mail application, you select Message->Redirect from the menu. Redirecting preserves the original headers which SpamAssassin uses in its learning process. Other email clients need to use different procedures to redirect mail to the training addresses.

The Training-Addresses list is located in the 'Counteragent Files:Lists' folder. Blank lines and lines that begin with "#" are ignored. A wildcard character "*" can be used in the training email address. One entry should be on each line. The first part of the line should be the email address, followed by a Tab character, followed by how mail to that address should be trained - (HAM|SPAM).

Examples: (<tab> should be replaced with an actual tab)
train-ham@counteragent.net<tab>HAM
train-spam@*<tab>SPAM

You can create multiple training addresses or use the wildcard feature to make one entry for all domains. The only caveat is that EIMS must be able to accept email for that address. Using the EIMS Forwarding option (via the EIMS Admin) to a training address will not work. The email address for which EIMS originally accepted the email must be in your Training-Addresses list to work properly.
